What Is Cabro Paving?

Cabro paving — also known as interlocking concrete block paving (ICBP) — is one of the most durable, versatile, and visually impressive surfacing solutions available for residential and commercial properties in Kenya. Our Cabro Installation Process

Green Boma follows a rigorous installation process to ensure every cabro project meets the highest quality standards and lasts for decades with minimal maintenance.

Step 1: Site Survey & Design

Our team visits your property to assess the area, take measurements, understand your intended use (foot traffic, vehicle traffic, or mixed), and discuss your design preferences. We advise on the most suitable block type, thickness, pattern, and colour scheme.

Step 2: Excavation & Ground Preparation

The area is excavated to the correct depth — typically 200-350mm depending on load requirements. All loose material, roots, and debris are removed to create a stable base.

Step 3: Sub-Base Installation

We lay and compact a layer of hardcore (crushed stone or murram) to the specified depth and compact it using a plate compactor or roller. The sub-base is the most critical element of a long-lasting cabro installation.

Step 4: Sharp Sand Bedding Layer

A 30-40mm layer of sharp river sand is screeded evenly over the sub-base to provide the precise bedding on which the cabro blocks are laid. The sand layer is levelled and graded for drainage.

Step 5: Cabro Laying

Blocks are laid by hand in the agreed pattern, starting from a straight edge or string line. Cut blocks are used to fill edges and corners. Border blocks or soldier courses are installed where required.

Step 6: Compaction & Jointing

Once all blocks are laid, we compact the entire surface using a plate compactor fitted with a rubber base to avoid chipping. Fine kiln-dried sand is then brushed into the joints and a final compaction pass locks everything in place.

Step 7: Final Inspection & Handover

Our supervisor walks through the completed area with the client, checks levels, drainage flow, and the quality of jointing before signing off the project. A maintenance guide is provided at handover.
