Bespoke garden design is the process of creating a completely custom garden layout that is designed specifically for your property, your lifestyle, and your aesthetic preferences. Unlike off-the-shelf garden designs, a bespoke approach begins with a thorough understanding of your land — its shape, gradient, soil type, sun exposure, and drainage — and builds a detailed plan from the ground up.
At Green Boma, our garden designers draw inspiration from Kenya's extraordinary natural landscapes — the sweeping savannas, lush Aberdare montane forests, tropical coastal vegetation, and Rift Valley escarpments — to create outdoor spaces that feel rooted in the Kenyan environment while meeting the functional needs of modern Nairobi living.
We design gardens for private homes, gated estates, office compounds, hotels, and resorts across Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Mombasa, and Kisumu.
Every great garden begins with an honest assessment of what you are working with. Our designers visit your property to conduct a full site survey — measuring the space, testing the soil, analysing sunlight and shade patterns throughout the day, assessing existing trees and structures, and understanding your drainage situation. We also take time to understand how you use your outdoor space, what you want to feel when you are in your garden, and what your budget allows.
Following the site survey, we produce a detailed 2D scaled drawing showing the proposed layout of your garden. This includes the position of all planted areas, lawn areas, paved zones, water features, pathways, seating areas, and structures. Every plant species is specified by name with its mature height, spread, and seasonal characteristics noted.
For clients who want to see exactly how their garden will look before a single plant is moved, we offer photorealistic 3D visualisations. These computer-generated renders allow you to walk through your future garden digitally, view it at different times of day, and make changes before any work begins on site.
Plant selection is one of the most important — and most complex — elements of garden design. We select plants suited to Nairobi's climate (1,795m elevation, bimodal rainfall, moderate temperatures), your soil type, the light conditions in different parts of your garden, and the overall aesthetic you are going for. We emphasise the use of indigenous Kenyan and East African plant species wherever possible — they are drought-tolerant, wildlife-friendly, and beautifully adapted to local conditions.
Many of our clients come to us with an existing garden that has become overgrown, outdated, or simply no longer reflects how they live. We offer full garden renovation and redesign services, working within existing mature planting where possible and supplementing with new species to create a transformed space.
A well-designed garden does not need to be implemented all at once. We produce phased implementation plans that allow you to achieve your dream garden over time, prioritising the most impactful elements first and deferring others as budget allows.
